The Eagles' (5-1 overall, 2-0 District 25-2A) homecoming win, combined with Lexington's 17-10 victory over Salado and Academy's 31-0 defeat of Lago Vista, leaves them alone atop the standings in 25-2A. Jarrell (0-6, 0-3) is still looking for its first win this season.
Rogers used a relentless rushing attack and swarming defense to overpower the Cougars. Larkin set the pace, running for 204 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries. Chance Marek added 119 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries while Ryan Pierce contributed 105 yards and two more scores on 16 totes. In all, the Eagles racked up 466 yards of total offense and 18 first downs, and never punted.
Meanwhile the Rogers defense limited Jarrell to 61 yards of total offense and six first downs while forcing the Cougars to punt nine times. It was especially tough in the second half, holding Jarrell to only 12 yards and one first down. Keaton Kalarek, Dylan Ray, Jacolby Brown and Chase Schiller were among the defensive leaders for the Eagles.
Rogers scored on its first possession when Marek broke free for a 52-yard touchdown run.
Jarrell's next possession ended with a punt. Marek fielded the kick at the Rogers 46 and returned it for an apparent 54-yard touchdown. But a penalty for an illegal block during the return instead gave the Eagles a first down on their 36.
Larkin broke loose for 63-yard gain on the first play of the possession, then scored on a 1-yard run on the next play to put Rogers ahead 13-0 with 4:25 left in the opening period.
The Eagles broke the game open in the second quarter, exploding for 28 points. Their first score came on a 1-yard touchdown run by Pierce that capped an eight-play, 76-yard drive - Rogers' longest drive of the night. The drive also followed Jarrell's deepest foray into Rogers territory all game, which ended on downs after Daniel Tucker was tackled a yard short of a first down on a fake field goal.
Rogers' next drive only took three plays to cover 39 yards. First quarterback Ryan Fares connected with Larkin on a 19-yard pass play - the Eagles' only completion of the game - then Pierce picked up 18 yards down to the Jarrell 2. Pierce scored on the next play, giving the Eagles a 27-0 lead with 6:52 left in the half.
Marek gave his teammates good field position on their next possession with a 47-yard punt return to the Jarrell 22. After an incomplete pass, Larkin scored with 3:37 remaining until halftime.
The Cougars' next possession ended when Fares intercepted a pass at midfield and returned it to the Jarrell 5. Fares scored on the next play, increasing Rogers' advantage to 41-0 at intermission.
The Eagles had three possessions in the third quarter: the first ended on downs at the Jarrell 43; the second with a fumble at the Jarrell 34; and the last on downs at the Jarrell 22.
Rogers' first possession of the fourth quarter started at the Jarrell 32, thanks to a short punt. Pierce gained 21 up the left sideline, and a penalty against the Cougars moved the ball to the 5. Fares scored on the next play, making the score 48-0 with 9:33 left in the game.
Another short punt gave the Eagles excellent field position at the Jarrell 39. Two plays later Larkin scored on a 37-yard romp with 5:55 remaining, and Kory Mitchell's seventh PAT kick of the contest made the score 55-0.
