Coming off one of its worst performances of the decade, No. 13 UMHB will play a game that has zero influence on its playoff fate when it hosts Southern Oregon in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tiger Field.
The Crusaders (5-1) dropped from No. 3 in the rankings following last Saturday's 17-14 loss at Mississippi College that ended their 33-game American Southwest Conference winning streak.
Now they'll face the Raiders (2-5) of the NAIA with nothing at stake but pride. Southern Oregon handed UMHB its only regular-season loss last year with a 40-28 victory in Ashland, Ore.
Still no Quincy
Junior Quincy Daniels, the Crusaders' game-breaking tailback, is expected to miss his second straight game with a sore knee.
UMHB - hindered some by Daniels' absence last week - also will be without sophomore tailback Rickie Williams, who suffered a broken arm against MC.
Senior Desmond Mays, who has been hampered by nagging injuries all season, will start this week and be backed up by sophomore Tracy Cooper, a converted linebacker who played on the junior varsity last year.
No other changes
The two-deep chart released to the media on Monday showed no other changes for the Crusaders.
Junior center Dustin Davis, who limped off the field late in last week's game and did not return, is listed as the starter.
Freshman quarterback LiDarral Bailey - lifted in the closing minutes in favor of junior Kyle Noack, who threw an interception that led to MC's game-winning field goal - remains as the listed starter.
