Area volleyball roundup: TC handed first conference loss by Hill in five

HILLSBORO - After six consecutive conference victories, Temple College was brought back down to earth Tuesday night.

Hill College reeled off seven straight points to win Game 4 and cruised through the final game for a 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 25-19, 15-6 victory, handing TC its first Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference loss.

"Hill played well throughout," TC coach Mary Reese said. "We started out well but didn't finish."

Kelsey Marek had 12 blocks, Coco Cave 11 kills and Rachel Doyle 23 digs for the Lady Leopards (15-20, 6-1 NTJCAC), who host Ranger College at 6 p.m. Thursday.

"I sure hope this refocuses this team," Reese said. "Just because we were undefeated in the first half of conference, opponents aren't going to lay down for us in the second half."

Tem-Cats swept at No. 7 A&M Consolidated

COLLEGE STATION - Temple was competitive at the net but still didn't have many answers for No. 7-ranked College Station A&M Consolidated as the Tem-Cats lost 25-12, 25-14, 25-9 on Tuesday night.

"We touched a ton of balls on the block and we had our moments, but we also made a lot of silly errors that cost us points," said Temple coach Susie Hughlett, whose Tem-Cats (20-15) dropped to 7-5 in District 12-5A with two matches left - at Bryan on Friday and home against Copperas Cove next Tuesday. The Tem-Cats are tied with rival Belton for the league's fourth and final playoff position.

"Friday and Tuesday are definitely winnable games for us, and we're looking forward to the challenge," said Hughlett, who got 11 digs from Lauren Mann and four kills and five digs from Loryn Goodwin.

Consol (29-7, 12-0) won its 39th consecutive district match.
