UMHB women's basketball picked fourth in ASC West

BELTON - Mary Hardin-Baylor is picked to finish fourth in the American Southwest Conference's West Division, according to ballotting of division coaches, sports information directors and media members.

The Lady Crusaders, who advanced to the second round of the ASC Tournament last season with a 14-13 overall record and were 12-9 in conference play, garnered 129 points and two first-place votes.

Hardin-Simmons was picked as the division winner with 12 first-place votes, followed by Howard Payne and McMurry. Concordia Texas was tabbed fifth, Texas Lutheran was sixth and Schreiner and Sul Ross State rounded out the division.

Hardin-Simmons center Lindsey Newcombe was selected as the ASC West Preseason Player of the Year.

Texas-Dallas is the East Division favorite, garnering 12 first-place votes. Lousiana College guard/forward Tillisha Givens was selected as the ASC East Preseason Player of the Year.
