Now the Tigers (7-1 overall, 3-1 in District 24-3A) look to get back on track when they host the Caldwell Hornets (6-1, 3-0) in a battle for first place.
A win for Rockdale would put it alone in first and, barring a couple of upsets, secure a playoff berth. But a loss could drop the Tigers to third and back into a tight race for a playoff spot.
The Hornets run a Wing-T offense led by running back Kysan Woolverton, who has 936 yards and 17 touchdowns on 160 carries. Fellow back Nelson Scott has 520 yards and six scores on 69 carries. Caldwell has attempted only 38 passes, completing 16 - half to Anthony Gutierrez for 210 yards.
Rockdale's attack is based either out of the I-formation or shotgun, and the Tigers have more go-to guys on offense. Greg Chelf (683 yards) and Daniel Brooks (613 yards) get the brunt of the carries, and quarterback Joe Sanders (47-of-105, 685 yards) will spread his passes around. Fourteen Tigers have receptions, led by Justin Elliot's 12 for 154 yards.
