But that's it after a not-too-pretty 26-6 loss to co-district leader Lago Vista at Merk Field.
And what has to make this one tough to swallow is the Eagles never really gave themselves a shot at recovering from a 20-0 halftime hole. They turned the ball over five times, including three in the fourth quarter.
"They played harder than we did and we made mistakes," Rogers coach Jeff Walker said. "We're not good enough to make mistakes and win."
To make matters worse, Rogers (6-2 overall, 3-1 25-2A) had a chance to take a stranglehold of the district as it chases a second straight title. Instead, the Eagles share the lead with the Vikings (5-2, 3-1) and likely need to close with wins over Academy and Salado to assure themselves of a playoff spot.
How quickly things can change in just 48 minutes.
