Playoff berths on line tonight

District 12-5A's regular season wraps up tonight, but when the league's playoff berths will be known is still undecided.

Temple (21-15 overall), Belton (14-23) and Bryan (17-16) are tied for third place in the standings with 8-5 records. Only two of the three teams will advance to the University Interscholastic League Class 5A playoffs behind district champion and No. 7-ranked College Station A&M Consolidated and runner-up Copperas Cove, who have clinched the top two playoff seeds.

Tonight, Temple hosts Cove, Belton hosts last-place Killeen Shoemaker and Bryan hosts Consol. A three-way tie at the end of the regular-season would require a district playoff to determine the final two postseason seeds.

In 11-5A, DeSoto and North Mesquite are tied for the league lead and square off tonight for the district title. The winner will face 12-5A's fourth seed, with the loser facing the No. 3 seed.

Cove will take on Mesquite Horn in the first round. Consol will draw either Tyler John Tyler or Tyler Lee when the playoffs begin Monday.
