Spirits are high among those working with the United Way of Central Texas fundraising campaign, which is seeing record returns from some companies.

Pledges are near $262,000, with several companies still in the middle of their campaigns, said Ann Thompson, United Way of Central Texas executive director. The Oct. 11 total was $192,995.

New fundraisers also are in the works, including a community garage sale and an online donation option for individuals, she said.

This year's goal is $1.7 million, which is used to support 28 health and human service agencies and programs that meet community needs.
