With sponsorship from Cliff Dyer, owner of Lone Star Sports Bar and Grill in Temple, the local radio station plays one song from a different local band every night at 7 p.m. Program director Jamie Garrett hosts the bar's new Sunday night showcase, Backyard Bands, which includes a live broadcast from 5 to 7 p.m. and a local band at 7. Holt performs this Sunday.

Dyer said so many radio stations have become owned by corporations and have stopped playing local music.

"They seem to forget that every band they have playing on the radio used to be a local band somewhere," he said. "I think the music scene is kind of dying around here, and I'm trying to save it."
