AREA ROUNDUP: Tem-Cats set to battle Bryan for 12-5A's final playoff spot

LEANDER - The Temple Tem-Cats face the Bryan Lady Vikings at 8 tonight at Leander Rouse High School to decide which team receives District 12-5A's final playoff berth.

Temple (21-16) and Bryan (17-17) finished league play tied for fourth with 8-6 records.

The winner faces 11-5A champion North Mesquite in a Class 5A bi-district playoff match next week.

Salado beats Rogers in district playoff

JARRELL - Salado moved one step closer to securing District 25-2A's top postseason seed with a 25-23, 25-23, 25-14 victory over fellow league tri-champion Rogers in a district playoff Thursday night.

Rogers (29-7) will face Lago Vista at 5:30 p.m. today. With a win, Rogers would be the district's second seed, Salado the first and Lago the third.

Rogers would have to settle for the No. 3 seed with a loss, which would force a matchup at 2 p.m. Saturday between Salado and Lago to decide the top two seeds.

Lady Leopards wrap up NTJCAC title

VERNON - The Temple College Lady Leopards wrapped up a fourth straight Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference title Thursday night with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 sweep of Vernon.

They open play as the top seed in the NJCAA Region V Tournament next Friday at Brookhaven College in Dallas.

"This puts us in better position for the regional tournament," Lady Leopards coach Mary Reese said. "It gives us momentum going into the regional tournament."

On Thursday, TC got a team-high 10 kills, 18 digs and a pair of blocks from CoCo Cave and three aces and 22 digs from Rachel Doyle. Also, Kelsey Marek had seven kills and five blocks and Kylie Presswood had 18 assists, two aces and three digs.

UMHB chalks up crucial win

BELTON - Mary Hardin-Baylor defeated LeTourneau 25-15, 25-23, 25-23 Thursday night to keep its postseason hopes alive.

The Lady Crusaders (8-24, 5-11 American Southwest Conference) can clinch a spot in the conference tournament with a win in the regular-season finale against Texas-Tyler at 7 p.m. today at Mayborn Campus Center. A loss by UMHB would give the final tourney berth to Mississippi College.

Kaydie Cochran had 10 kills to lead the Lady Crusaders over the Yellow Jackets (6-20, 2-14). Kayla Marzean posted 28 assists and Erin Maenius had 12 digs.

HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

Tindell, Lady Tigers look to repeat success at District 12-5A meet

ROUND ROCK - A third straight District 12-5A title is at stake for Belton senior Regan Tindell, along with a second consecutive team crown for the Lady Tigers today at Old Settler's Park.

The Lady Tigers won the title last year by placing five runners in the top nine and Tindell cruised to a 43-second victory. They are ranked 10th in the latest 5A coaches poll and are coming off a fifth-place finish at the prestigous Chile Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., earlier this month. Tindell was second in the 5k invitational race.

Belton's boys are also looking for another trip to the Class 5A Region II meet after placing third last season. Temple junior Romeo Guajardo is chasing a second straight regional appearance.

Temple's boys and girls teams finished fifth at last season's meet, missing a regional berth by two spots.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals qualify for the regional meet on Nov. 7 at Vandergriff Park in Arlington.

Bruceville-Eddy boys win 16-2A title

WACO - The Bruceville-Eddy boys team won its fourth straight league title, finishing first at the District 16-2A meet Wednesday.

The Eagles, paced by a second-place finish by junior Tye Doty, qualified for the Class 2A Region II meet on Nov. 7.

Doty, who finished fifth at the state meet last year, was second in 17:15. The Eagles had all five of their scoring runners in the top nine to score 27 points, 20 fewer than second-place McGregor.

Rosebud-Lott boys win 20-2A title; Lady Cougars' Greger wins girls individual crown

MARLIN - The Rosebud-Lott boys team finished second and individual winner Stephanie Greger was one of four Lady Cougars who finished in the top 10 to lead a strong showing at the District 20-2A meet Wednesday.

The Cougars' second-place finish qualified them for the Class 2A Region III meet on Nov. 7. Justin Allen and John Kruger were top-10 finishers.

Greger claimed the girls title, Lauren Borntrajer was fifth, Olivia Miller finished eight and Chelsea Miller was 10th to qualify individually for the regional meet.
