A final embrace: No arrests ever made in man, prostitute's death

BELTON - When it comes to notorious characters in Bell County, no man in the late 1800s could equal the exploits of Pick Wiseman, who met his demise in the arms of a prostitute.

Nobody was ever arrested in connection with the deaths of Wiseman or Cora McMahan, but newspapers from all over the nation picked up the story, including the New York Times, which published an article on Aug. 11, 1890.
