SALADO - Robert Carradine remembers preparing for his role in the 1980 World War II film, "The Big Red One."

He and the other young cast members gathered at a rifle range on location in Israel to practice shooting M1 Garands, carefully handling the automatic weapons. Lee Marvin calmly walked up, took Kelly Ward's gun, fired the clip about two feet in front of the guys and said, "That's combat."

"Right out of the gate, we knew we were dealing with the real thing," Carradine said.

Now 30 years later, three of Marvin's costars from "The Big Red One," Carradine, Ward and Robert Di Cicco, will speak at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Longhorn Conference Center at the Stagecoach Inn.
