Belton's Tindell runs back to state cross country meet; Salado and Bruceville-Eddy boys, Rogers girls to join her

Belton senior Regan Tindell is headed back to the University Interscholastic League Cross Country Meet for another shot at a state title.

Tindell finished third at Saturday's Class 5A Region II meet in Arlington, giving her a chance to improve on third- and fifth-place finishes in the last two seasons.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals at regional meets around the state secured spots at next Saturday's state meet at Old Settlers' Park in Round Rock.

Tindell leads a large area contingent at state, including three teams and 12 individuals.

The Lady Tigers missed out on a return trip to state. They finished seventh and were 90 points behind the final spot.

In the boys 5A race, Temple's Romeo Guajardo was 69th and Belton's Zerrick Vriseno finished 38th.

The Bruceville-Eddy and Salado boys and the Rogers girls were the only area teams to qualify.

Bruceville-Eddy - which claimed the 2A Region II title in Arlington after taking fifth at state last year - was paced by individual winner Tye Doty. A third-place finisher at state last year, Doty led three Eagles in the top 20.

Salado's boys were second at the 2A Region IV meet in San Antonio, paced by runner-up Jace Peralta. Behind Peralta to qualify individually were third-place finisher Connor McAtee of Academy, fifth-place finisher Emmanuel Villafranco of Jarrell and sixth-place finisher Kevin Marek of Rogers.

In the 2A Region IV girls race, Academy's Emily Koenig - an eighth-place medalist in 2007 - was the winner and Jarrell's Nancy Juarez finished 10th. Rogers' girls finished third, paced by seventh-place finisher Lauren Bedrich.

Cameron Yoe had three girls and a boy advance in the 3A Region III race in Houston. Alisa Pena was fourth, Martha Bustamante finished fifth and Madison Pevehouse was eighth. Victor Canizales was eighth in the boys race.
