TC volleyball wins two matches, needs one more to reach national tournament

DALLAS - Two down, one to go.

The Temple College Lady Leopards won both matches on Saturday on the opening day of the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference volleyball tournament to advance to today's 4 p.m. championship match.

"It was a good day of volleyball," Templ coach Mary Reese said. "There were moments we really looked amazing and very fluid on the court."

Fourteen kills apiece by CoCo Cave and Chelsie Padgett helped the Lady Leopards (21-21) dominate Cisco in the opener 25-16, 25-9, 25-27, 25-15.

"We looked really good the first two sets," Reese said. "Cisco fought in the third set but that took it out of them and we dominated the fourth."

That set up Temple for an evening matchup against Hill, which the Lady Leopards took 20-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-14, 15-9.

"Just like the score suggests, Hill was an up-and-down fight," Reese said. "We got aggressive and the girls realized this is a game we have to win and they stepped up."

Kelsey Marek had 14 kills and six blocks in the match and Padgett had 14 kills, four blocks, four aces, and 16 digs.

Hill and North Central Texas will meet early today, with the winner advancing to play Temple in the championship match.

Temple just needs to win one match today to advance to the NJCAA Division I Tournament set for Nov. 19-21 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Temple's opponent will have to beat TC twice to advance.
