TC men tune up for South Plains showdown by dominating Fort Sam Houston

Marlon Miller scored 18 points to lead seven Temple College men's basketball players in double figures as the Leopards tuned up for Monday's home showdown with No. 10-ranked South Plains College by dominating Fort Sam Houston 130-64 on Saturday at TC Gym.

Alex Lewis scored 16 points for TC (2-0), Joseph Okeke had 15 in his college debut and Rayland Robinson, Sully Haywood, Keenen Owoigbe added 14 apiece. Derrick McDowell (13 points) made four of the Leopards' 16 3-point baskets, as did fellow freshman Lewis. Haywood and Owoigbe hit three 3-pointers apiece and Belton graduate Miller had two.

"We got what we wanted out of it. Everybody played and everybody scored," Temple coach Kirby Johnson said. "We have a young team, so it's good to get some experience early and today's game served its purpose."

At 5:30 p.m. Monday the Leopards will host perennial West Texas power South Plains before playing at San Jacinto on Thursday.

"That will be a good barometer for us with a bunch of freshmen," Johnson said. "The next two games will tell us a lot about our team. We need a good home crowd Monday night."
