Growth could change politics

Growth in the Hispanic population since the 2000 census will change the political landscape considerably in Texas and several other states, according to a report issued Tuesday.

The study by America's Voice Education Fund predicted that Texas will gain four congressional seats, while a handful of states will lose seats because of the population gain.

The decennial census will be conducted next year.

But, the trajectory of growth in Hispanics is already clear, thanks to data collection by the Census Bureau via the American Community Survey, 2006-08.
