Despite dropping three straight games over the weekend, the Lady Tigers rebounded with their most impressive performance of the young season Monday night.
Belton jumped out to an early lead, weathered a charge and some foul trouble and came away with a 66-54 victory over previously unbeaten Austin Lake Travis at Tiger Gym.
Meghan Braeuer, Hailey Rosebrock and Amber Peters combined for 49 points, and the Lady Tigers got key contributions from others to secure the win.
"There was a different energy on the floor," Belton coach Randy Bell said. "That's the first good basketball team we've beaten (this season). We've been in games with others, but that's the first one we've won."
Belton went 1-3 in a tough tournament at Flower Mound over the weekend and had the unenviable task of turning around Monday to face a solid Lady Cavaliers squad.
"We were battle-tested in Dallas," said Bell, whose team is 4-7. "When you play the Kellers and the Mansfields and the Mesquites, you see there's a different sense of intensity. It upped our expectations and that helped a lot.
"They bonded together and we were waiting to do this."
