FORT HOOD - The justice of the peace who officially pronounced death on 12 soldiers and one civilian killed during a shooting spree Thursday at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center described the scene in one word: Carnage.

Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin said all the victims were killed in the lobby of the processing center, where paperwork was strewn all over the ground and furniture and partitions were turned over.

"It's a waste of our most valuable product," Potvin said about the soldiers who had been killed.
