Central Texas veterans health care staff awarded

Providing services to the homeless veteran is a formidable task, but thankfully there are individuals who aren't afraid of the challenges.

Paula Wood, supervisor and coordinator of the Central Texas Health Care for Homeless Veterans program, and her staff reach out to homeless veterans every day.

Last month, their work was recognized by the Veterans Administration when the team received the Secretary's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Service for Homeless Veterans.

The Central Texas staff of caseworkers and social workers deserves the award, Wood said, because they've worked hard and are committed to helping the homeless.

For Wood, it's been her life's work - she's worked in mental health throughout her career.
