But neither saw this coming.
Courtnee White scored 22 points and Harper connected for seven 3-point shots en route to a 61-27 romp that ended Rogers' season and advanced the Ladyhorns to the Region IV quarterfinals.
"I knew they had some good shooters, but I didn't think it would be that lopsided," said Morgan, whose Lady Eagles beat Hallettsville 58-53 in the first round Tuesday. "I thought it would be a lot closer."
Said Lumpkins: "I thought it would be a lot closer. I was just hoping we could come out and get the win - not like that, though."
But this game was hardly ever in question. A quick jumper by White followed by a steal by Jordan Maner that led to a basket by Amelia Herring sent a quick message that the Ladyhorns weren't there to mess around - they were there to take control.
It was almost 2 minutes into the game before Rogers (22-8) answered with a 3-pointer by Kelsey Hudson, suggesting that the Lady Eagles weren't going to go quietly. But Amanda Herring answered with a 3 on Harper's next possession to put the Ladyhorns up 7-2, and the game began to get out of hand.
Harper's full-court trap defense and persistence on the boards helped turn it into a double-digit lead and an eventual 22-7 advantage after the opening quarter.
"That's just who we are," Lumpkins said of the pressure. "That's how it has to go for us to be successful. And if some of those shots don't fall, then maybe it's a different ballgame."
But they did fall, and it forced the Lady Eagles into a position of having to try to force some tough 3-pointers to try to get back into the game. The Lady Eagles did make four 3s, but they missed 11 - six in the second quarter.
