The treatment for a dead pump is a new pump, even if that pump is a human heart.

If a patient's heart disease has progressed to the point a new pump is required, medicine alone is no longer an option, said Dr. Nandini Nair, medical director of Scott & White Healthcare cardiac transplantation program.
