LOTT - The growing number of crimes against older women and reports of a serial rapist have spurred the Lott Police Department to host a free Personal Safety Awareness seminar at the Rosebud-Lott High School gymnasium at 1 p.m. this Saturday. The seminar will focus on personal safety awareness as well as securing your home from invasion. Rice University Police Department Sgt. Jim Baylor, a leader in crime prevention and safety for women, will be the guest speaker.

The seminar is in response to several sexual assaults that occurred since January 2009 in Bell, Falls, Leon and Lavaca counties with the victims between 65 and 91 years old.

The latest attack occurred in the early hours of March 2, 2010, in the home of an 80-year-old Moody woman. The assailant forced entry into the home, according to Tom Vinger, spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety.
