Temple pounded out 16 hits during a 17-1, five-inning rout of Abilene, then mustered only four hits in a 5-0 loss to Austin to wrap up the pool-play portion of the tournament.
First-year coach Matt Pullen was unpleased by the Wildcats' erratic performance at the plate but liked what he saw on the mound and in the field.
"Our goal was to win two games and we didn't do it," he said. "But you can't do it if you don't win the first one, so I like that we gave ourselves a chance.
"We did a good enough job pitching and fielding to win both games. But we have to become more consistent at the plate."
Temple faces host Georgetown (6-2-1) on the Eagles' home field at 12:30 today in a semifinal, with the winner advancing to the championship game.
Left-hander Dillon Mangham (1-1) yielded just three hits in the opener and was backed by a defense that played error-free.
Nich Crosswhite's home run highlighted a six-run second inning that blew the game open, and Tanner Dodd, Matthew Grisham, Chris Garcia and Patrick Maxwell had doubles.
"After working out of a little bit of trouble in the first inning, Dillon stayed ahead in the count the whole way," Pullen said. "He didn't give them anything to hit hard."
Lefty Michael Wills (0-1) gave up seven hits and had two errors made behind him against Austin, which got a 10-strikeout performance from pitcher Andrew Boes.
"(Boes) was a good pitcher and had good stuff, but we had a letdown from the first game," Pullen said. "We have continually gotten better defensively throughout the week; now we have to find a way to do the same thing at the plate."
