AUSTIN -- Sen. Troy Fraser, R-Horseshoe Bay, has been appointed to serve on three Senate committees, including vice chairman of the Business and Commerce Committee, for the 77th Legislature, Lt. Gov. Bill Ratliff announced Wednesday.

Fraser also was appointed to the Finance Committee, which writes the biennial budget for state government, and to the State Affairs Committee.

"I am pleased and grateful to of the appointments." he said.

"I know from having served last session on the Finance Committee that it will give me direct input into the budget process, and that it can lead to good things for Senate District 24," he added.

That Senate district includes Bell County and 20 other counties.

Fraser also said he is looking forward to serving as vice chairman of the Business and Commerce Committee (formerly known as the Economic Development Committee).

"These are great committees to work on, and I'm looking forward to another fast-paced session," Fraser said.

Ratliff said the committee assignments are tentative, pending Senate approval of rules changes, including increasing the size of the Finance Committee from 1l to 13 members, merging the Health and Human Services committees into one committee, and eliminating the Veterans and Military Installations Committee.

Ratliff said eliminating the last committee was a difficult decision, but that he believes veterans and military matters can be addressed by other Senate panels.

He said he had discussed the decision with Sen. Carlos Truan, D-Corpus Christi, the current chairman of the committee, who opposed eliminating the committee.
