FORT HOOD -- The 3rd Personnel Group will formally deactivate in a 9 a.m. ceremony today in front of the III Corps headquarters building, said Cecil Green, public affairs officer for III Corps.

The group, a major subordinate command under III Corps, provides personnel services to take care of wartime missions and is a part of the transformation concept in the Army, he said.

Nearly all of the more than 1,000 members of the 3rd are currently deployed, said Green. Members will be reassigned to the major commands on post such as 4th Infantry Division and 1st Cavalry Division.

Green said hardly any change will be noted in services provided, but 12 personnel spaces on post will be vacated after the soldiers are reassigned.

The 3rd is one of three personnel groups to be deactivated. Green said the other two are the 18th Personnel Group currently in Iraq and the 1st Personnel Group at Fort Carson, Colo.

Col. Ronald P. Higham, Jr., commander of the 3rd Personnel Group, will be reassigned as the U.S. Joint Forces Command J-1, said Green. Command Sgt. Maj. Annette Joseph has been named as the next Command Sergeant Major of the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Fort Hood.
