The Killeen Independent School District through a news release said a local teacher is no longer employed after being charged with child indecency.
On Thursday, U.S. Marshals of Waco arrested James Lee Harper, 36, on a warrant charging indecency with a child/sexual contact.
According to Taina Maya, the district’s chief communications and marketing officer, Harper was a teacher at Harker Heights High School, “but he was not a coach or involved with athletics for the district.”
“The charges against the educator do not involve a KISD student nor did any alleged criminal act occur on a KISD campus,” the KISD news release said. “The employee has since been terminated and all information was turned over to police to assist in their investigation. This case remains under investigation and the district is not able to comment further.”
Harper is at the Bell County Jail as of Friday afternoon on $75,000 bond.
