News Department Assistant
The Temple Daily Telegram has an immediate, full-time
opportunity for an assistant in its news department. This is a
key position that works closely with editors, reporters and the
general public in the newspaper’s effort to serve its readers and
its community.
The news assistant handles a variety of information, preparing it
for print and online publication, including obituaries, weddings,
anniversaries, letters to the editor, court records, building permits
and press releases. This is a “front line” job that regularly interacts
with the public, answering the phone, greeting department
visitors and answering questions. The position includes weekend
and holiday shifts.
Required and Preferred skills and qualifications:
• Excellent spelling and grammar skills required.
• Ability to type 50 or more words per minute required.
• Good computer skills, including proficiency in Word required.
• Ability to work quickly and accurately, meeting established
deadlines required.
• Familiarity with posting on social media preferred.
• Customer service experience is preferred.
• Writing experience preferred.
• Positive, team-player attitude required.
