SALADO — A Salado High School junior is hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury after an accident Sunday, Salado Superintendent Dr. Michael Novotny said Tuesday.
Ryan White is being treated at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple, according to Novotny.
White received head injuries when he fell off the trunk of a moving motor vehicle, Maj. T.J. Cruz of the Bell County Sheriff’s Department said Tuesday. It was first reported at about 5:44 p.m. Sunday as an incident. Further investigation showed it was a traffic accident, Cruz said.
The accident happened in the 17000 block of Kuykendall Branch Road near Salado.
White was still in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit Tuesday, Cruz said.
The Texas Department of Public Safety will make a traffic accident report in this case, Cruz added.
Salado Independent School District students have visited his family and are keeping him in their thoughts and prayers, Novotny said.
The Salado FFA requested prayers Monday for White and his family on its Facebook page.
“Our high school band (over 100 students) all prayed for him together during marching practice last night,” he said.
Novotny was not aware Tuesday of any fundraisers for the family, he said.
“I think it is probably too early to know the type and duration of the medical care he will need and costs associated with that medical care,” Novotny said.
