Belton High School Cheer is headed to the NCA All-Star Nationals this weekend for the first time ever.
According to Belton Independent School District spokeswoman Elizabeth Cox, the squad earned the opportunity to compete in the national competition in Dallas for their performance at an National Cheerleaders Association camp last July.
“Varsity and junior varsity members tried out for spots on the 30-person travel team,” Cox said. “The team has worked countless hours during and after school to be ready for this competition that is one of the toughest in the nation.”
Cox said the team will compete in preliminaries on Saturday and finals will be Sunday.
According to a district release last summer, the varsity team received superior ribbons in the Chant, Band Chant and Cheer categories at the July camp. The team received numerous additional awards, and individual members also won awards.
The junior varsity team also won a number of awards, including superior ribbons in Chant, Band Chant and Cheer.
According to the NCA website, the All-Star Nationals competition is the largest All-Star Cheerleading National Championship in the country. Every year, the event has more than 25,000 participants and 38,000 spectators.
