As students arrived at Temple College for the first day of classes for the spring semester, they were asked if they were familiar with TC’s new app “On the Go?”

The app is part of the modules the college purchased from Ellucian, which include Advise, Recruit, Student Planning and Financial Aid. The app was deployed at the end of 2018 and the effort now is to get students to download it and use it.

Mark Smith, vice president of educational services, said he should be able to determine how many people have downloaded the app sometime Monday.

“I want to look today because I need to see if what we’re doing to promote it at all the entrances to campus is helping,” he said. “We’re using this as part of our rollout effort. A lot of people aren’t even aware that the app exists.”

Students can check their grades on the app, as well as check their financial aid, register for classes and check class schedules.

The new app allows students to do things such as pay their bills from their mobile devices rather than having to come to campus or be at a home computer.

The app also enables students to access faculty and staff contact information as, find buildings on the campus through interactive maps and stay informed about campus news and events.

The app can be downloaded for free from both the iStore, for use with iPhones and iPads, or from the Google Play store for use with android devices.

Students can sign in to the app using the same username and password they use to sign in to TConnect, the current online student portal.

“We hope this app will be instrumental in helping attract new learners to the college and to better engage our current learners to create a more positive experience at Temple College,” Smith said.

Smith led the team that developed the new app, in partnership with the college’s student software provider, Ellucian. Smith said additional functionality will be added to the app in the coming year.
