Search warrant

Members of the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad remove a possible dangerous device from a home in the 3700 block of Lynx Trail on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred during a search warrant at the home.

The Temple Police Department advised residents to avoid the 3700 block on Lynx Trail after finding a potentially dangerous device, the agency said in a tweet Monday afternoon.

At 11:30 a.m., officers were executing a search warrant when they found a possible explosive device in the area. The search warrant was being executed to look for suspected contraband in the home.

Two suspects in the home — a male and a female — were detained while the department called the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department.

Police spokeswoman Alejandra Arreguin said the McLennan County department was called due to them being the closest agency available with the resources to handle the explosives.

Arreguin said the suspected explosive device was removed by the bomb squad at about 2:20 p.m. and the investigation of the device would be separate from the search warrant. She said the surrounding residents were contacted and given the option to evacuate from their homes.

After the device was removed, Arreguin said officers from the department planned on returning to the house to complete their original search.
