A Temple teenager was arrested after he reportedly fatally shot a 19-year-old woman Wednesday morning, police said.
Christopher James DeLeon, 18, was in custody Wednesday afternoon at the Bell County Jail in connection with the death of Claire Hernandez. A charge is pending, jail records show.
Temple Police officers responded to the shooting at about 12:19 a.m. Wednesday in the 1800 block of East French Avenue.
Officers who arrived at the scene located the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple where she succumbed to life-threatening injuries.
Hernandez’s relatives have been notified of her death, police said.
The death is the city's second homicide of 2021.
