Frank Chapman Burton

Frank Chapman Burton, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away at home after a prolonged illness on August 15, 2016. Born to Pickard and Lucia Burton on March 25, 1933 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Frank was nicknamed “Chap” and was known by all who knew home as a “good chap.” He spent his formative years in Oklahoma City where he was involved in school activities and active in St. John’s Episcopal Church before attending Kenyon College and the University of Oklahoma. His early interest in airplanes led him to a career with Continental Airlines. Other lifelong interests included family, volunteering, and travel. Chap’s passion was people, wherever he went. He was an animal lover and especially fond of his dachshund Tootsie. His joyful, gracious, and giving spirit will be remembered and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He married Barbara Gillespie Brewer in 1991. Chap and Barbara were schoolmates in Oklahoma City, beginning with Putnam Heights Elementary, through Harding Jr. High, and graduating in 1951 from Classen High School. They made their home in Temple, were Frank’s involvement in St. Luke’s Catholic Church included serving as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister, singing in the Third Sunday group, as a member of a Bible study and prayer group, and as a participant in Family Promises. Other miniseries include helping to build an outdoor learning center for Taylor ISD, deliverying papers, serving as a greeter for Scott and White Clinic and Hospital, and as joint administrator for Our Lady of the Angels Maternity Shelter. He was a supporter of Temple Civic Theatre, Temple Symphony and Jazz Festivals, Temple Music Club, and the Azalee Marshall Cultural Activities Center.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Barbara Burton. He is survived by his son Robert Burton and wife Charlotte of Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Kathryn Burton of Albuquerque, NM; and daughter Elizabeth Burton of Las Vegas, NV. The surviving grandchildren are Austin and wife Kelly Jane, Jacob and wife Kaycee, Daniel, Kelly Jean Burton of Oklahoma City, OK, and Destiny Rose Almanzan of Las Vegas, NM. Also surviving is his sister Carolyn Evans of Edmund, OK. He is preceded in death by his brother The Reverend Perry Burton.

He is also mourned by his stepchildren, Stephen Brewer and wife Teri, Susan Busa, Shelley Reed and husband Murphy, as well as grandchildren Garrett Brewer and wife Laura, Matthew Brewer, Katie Geddes and husband Tracy, Alexandra Reed, Bryan Reed, Alice Busa Prosperi and husband Chris, John James Busa, and great-granddaughter Lillian Brewer, and a large extended family and many friends, who will all miss him greatly.

A Memorial Mass is schedule for 10:00 am. on August 20 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Donations may be offered to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy at CurePSP.
