ST. GEORGE, Utah — The Temple College softball team’s season came to an end on Friday when Chattanooga State handed the Lady Leopards a 3-1 defeat in an elimination game at the NJCAA Division I National Championship at Canyons Complex. Tempel College (51-12), the No. 7 seed, was 2-2 in the tournament with its two victories over the top two seeds: Salt Lake Community College and Wallace State.

TC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Addie Vayas scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Alex Wilson, a Belton product. Chattanooga State (48-12), the No. 4 seed, countered with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a Katy Richardson sacrifice fly to center and an RBI single to center by Katie Scott. The Tigers got its other run in the third on a homer by Sydney Sloan, who finished 2-for-3.

Paige Williams (26-3), a Rogers product, suffered her first loss after 17 consecutive victories. Williams had four strikeouts while allowing six hits and one walk. Sharlene Godoy (21-5) was the winning pitcher, limiting TC to three hits and one walk while striking out five.

This was TC’s fifth NJCAA tournament appearance. The Lady Leopards have an 11-10 all-time record at nationals.
